They dont play O'Canada because no team from Canada is playing here. If a team from our sisters to the north were here we would sing it. So please no Canada anthem. if we did it just to honor players from Canada, then we would have to play the england one, france, russia etc... Respect the team and their country, not any one individual player.
P.S. on the topic of respect during our anthem, I say you pay your respect the way you know how. If that's cheering during the whole thing then so be it. I personally standby quietly during the national Anthem. But if you ever read the National Anthem for the story it tells, I sometimes want to cheer during "that our flag was still there." Think of the story and it can be pretty motivating. |
